The prompt
“A red dragon breathing fire on a rocky cliff, wings spread”
A Minecraft red dragon of 54,002 blocks, standing on a grey rock outcrop, both wings spread with the wing bones and the membrane between them showing, brown horns, a pale belly, and the tail running out behind the rock. A small burst of orange and yellow fire sits at its mouth, and the rock has patches of moss. It covers 200 by 195 blocks and stands 174 tall, in 21 kinds of block. It was generated on this site from the request above, for Java Edition 1.21.
Tweeted in 2011, never added
Minecraft has no red dragon. Notch wrote in October 2011 that he would work on red dragons after the release, and none was added: the dragon the game has is the Ender Dragon. A Minecraft fire dragon that breathes fire belongs to a mod, such as Ice and Fire. So a red dragon in a world is one somebody built, and this is one to download.

The fire is this build's own idea of a dragon. The Ender Dragon's breath and fireballs leave purple clouds that do damage, and its fireballs no longer light the ground. In 2013 the developer Dinnerbone wrote "we have no plans to add a red dragon at this time". In February 2026 Jens Bergensten wrote that it still comes up at Mojang "from time to time", as talk of the old days, and the wiki records no plans to add one.
What was said of a red dragon: Minecraft Wiki, "Mentioned features/Red Dragon"
Widest at the very top

Wool at the mouth, redstone in the skin
Neither flame is fire: both are blocks. Some blocks in the build are ones the Minecraft Wiki lists as flammable, and some are always powered. None of this has been tried in the game.

The two flames
At the mouth: 400 honeycomb blocks, 364 orange wool and 290 yellow wool. At the tip of the tail: 965 blocks of orange concrete, none of it wool. The wiki lists wool as flammable and honeycomb blocks as not.
What else is on the list
Red wool is 4,708 blocks of the dragon, there are 965 blocks of coal, 902 of them in layers 1 to 60, and 464 spruce planks. Wool, planks and blocks of coal are all in the wiki's table of flammable blocks: with the wool at the mouth, 6,791 blocks, about one in eight.
Redstone that is always on
The 5,472 blocks of redstone are power sources: the wiki says each powers the blocks beside it and cannot be turned off. Redstone dust or a redstone lamp placed against one is beside a power source.
Scorched ground, an egg, a rival in ice
What the fire points at
The fire leaves the mouth from layer 109 up, over open air in front of the rock. The ground it points at is empty.
Something to guard
The build is a hollow shell with no way in. At layer 2, inside the rock, there is a clear floor 49 blocks square: cut a door, and a nest 20 across has room there.
The other half of the mod
Ice and Fire sets ice dragons beside its fire dragons. This one has no opposite yet.
One that has landed
Notch wrote of dragons that "can land". This one stands with its wings up; another could lie with them folded, small enough for the edge of a village.
A button sends that request to the generator. We have not built these ourselves.
